We managed to work out the buses to get to the CBD and then to the zoo. It was actually very easy - there is an City Link, Inner Link and Outer Link and they are all colour coded and pass through Britomart which is the major exchange. From there we got a bus to the zoo. The drivers were nice and very helpful.
The zoo is well laid out and interesting
. We didn't have time to see the whole zoo so concentrated on New Zealand natives and exhibits which aren't available in Sydney (with a couple of exceptions). So we saw Kiwis, native NZ reptiles (Tuatara etc.) and birds (Kea), Tamarinds, Lemurs, Marmosets and Tara's brothers, the gibbons.
The Kiwis were very hard to see because they are nocturnal so the enclosure has very low lighting and a big fake moon. Eventually our patience was rewarded when two Kiwis came up very close to the glass in a patch of reasonable light and we were able to get a good look at them.
The enclosures were spacious and even lunch was pretty good - and I didn't need to take out a bank loan to buy it!
It was a great day, although the famous four seasons in an hour was a bit of a trial. I kept taking off my jumper and putting it back on.
Back in Parnell we went out for dinner and to the Chocolate shop again. Then we went for another walk around Parnell which was just as nice as the previous day.
