Visiting the Holy Monastery of Giromeri.

We are very close to the Albanian borders, 23 Kms from Igoumenitsa and we are visiting the Monastery of Giromeri which is found on the west slopes of the mountain range of Farmakovouni .

The Monastery belongs to the Metropolis of Paramythia, and is run according to the regulations of the monastic way of a convent as far as both the monks' life and their rituals are concerned. Quests are welcomed to visit the Monastery from dawn till sunset.

The coach we are in is huge and the road is very narrow. Some ladies in the coach are scared but it is not as scary as they think. The road is perfect but of course we wish not to come across any car coming from the opposite way. We are lucky and actually the only people out there at this time.

We saw two monks while there, and one of them gave us a short speech on the history and founder of the Monastery. The founder was Saint Nilos.

A cup of Greek coffee and a Greek delicacy –loukoumi, is always welcome and we were treated with such after we came out in the gardens.
