BARI - 8 .30 am.

We reached Bari early in the morning, and via Aurelia we were driven to Pompeii.
The trip was interesting, and we were having fun inside the coach, because everybody knows each other.

As usual I did some search on Pomepeii and learned that the city was destroyed and completely buried, during a long catastrophic eruption of the volcano Mount Vesuvius.

The volcano collapsed higher roof-lines and buried Pompeii under 60 feet of ash and pumice, and the city was lost for nearly 1700 years. It was discovered in 1748.
Its excavation has provided an extraordinarily detailed insightinto the life of the city at the height of the Roman Empire.
Today, it is both one of the most popular tourist attractions of Italy, with almost 3 million visitors and it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Bits of animal bone, potteryshards and plants are found by archeologists . Using carbon dating, the oldest layer has been dated to the 8th-6th centuries BC, about the time that the city was found by the Osci or Oscans. It had already been used as a safe port by Greek and Phoenician sailors.

Somehow these ancient streets where so many people lived and died 2000 years ago, give you a feeling of a haunted place.
If you are a bit romantic like me, you can even (hear) the whispers of people who used to walk these streets and lived in these ancient houses so long ago.I tried to imagine myself being there so many years ago!

Erotic sybols could be seen in many houses and you just wonder what was going on then!
Even in the streets these erotic symbols can be seen on stones.
