ROME
We reached Rome late in the afternoon on Monday the 16th at 8pm
.
We are all tired because of the long trip and we go straight to have dinner by the swimming pool out in the garden. Dinner is ok. but not what I expected from a 4 star hotel.
Pasta or soup as a starter, and then meat and beans with potatoes and for dessert we had a colorful cake with custard cream – artificial colors are something I hate, but I am so tired that I ate desert and then felt guilty and sorry for myself!
SEING ROME BY NIGHT
Plans for a tour to see Rome by night was something that awaken the rest of the group who are visiting Rome for the first time. They are happy to hear this, and we indeed have a night tour around the sites of Rome at 10.45pm.
Everything looks different at night with beautiful colors
. We returned to the Hotel after midnight, feeling tired, but satisfied as well.
HOLIDAY INN HOTEL
We are spending 2 nights at the Holiday Inn which is in the suburbs of Rome.
It is on a hill and we have a nice view from our window. The room is clean and nice, there is a huge long bed, but the room is very small. The bathroom with a nice shower is small also but it is cute I can admit. The problem is that unfortunately we don't have a mini bar in our room but I am going to ask for one tomorrow.
Something else that disappointed me in this hotel is that we are charged 5 euro for just half an our to have internet access!! Unbelievable but true!
I am sad because I am not willing to give them so much money for so little time!
WEDNESDAY MORNING
We leave for a day tour
. Among other things we visit the Vatican Church which is the biggest Church in the world. Amazing! Got many photos.
Did lots of site seeing however for us it was nothing new as we were in Rome a couple of months ago.
DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE IN TRAVELLING WITH A GROUP
I notice the difference when traveling privately and when traveling with a package booking. I surely prefer when we travel on our own, but I can admit that when traveling with a group you have quick access to places of interest and you pay less to enter different places like museums, etc.
For instance on our last trip in Rome we had to wait long queues to enter the Vatican. We were not patient and left. Now, the tour guide knew exactly the time the Vatican opens for crowds and we were the first to get in
.
This day we visit the Cathedral, the Pope of Rome accepts all couples who are getting married and is blessing them. So we see brides and grooms around the yard.
Another difference when traveling privately is that we book centrally located hotels and we have access to the sites any time we wish.
Now with a package tour all the hotels booked are in the suburbs and just move in the centre by the coach. Of course anyone who wishes can stay back and move freely by himself but this is not easy.
Luckily the travel agency we choose every time we decide to have a tour with colleagues of my husband, is one of the best in Athens. It is called THIAMIS TOURS and they are experts on what they are doing.
