SIENA- A Medieval Town – 13th century
Siena is about 78 kilometres from Florence and about 231 km from Rome
.
It is situated on three hills.
Its original character remains unspoiled and the city remains essentially a medieval town. The walls and gates enclose the centre of the city.
The centre of the city is dominated by a large, shell-shaped square called Piazza del Campo.
Modern buildings are outside the city's walls.

Personal comments:
It is an interesting place to visit, but I wasn’t thrilled.
As always I imagined myself living inside the Walls of Siena and I got dizzy
.
The 13th century buildings built one next to the other, without big windows or balconies make life miserable.
People from the Mediterranean who are used to living out in open spaces, having big balconies in their houses cannot live here for sure.
Of course there is a University here, and in the Modern city there is life, however we did not have the chance to visit the modern city at all. So, I cannot tell.
In fact there are many Greek students who live here and attend University.
I am afraid I have to admit that I wanted to leave after half an hour.
Of course the Cathedral and the Plazza was ok, but what then?
I took many photos but it is not a place I would like to return to
