Edipsos, Euboea, Greece
This is how I comment on our short stay at this hotel:
One of the Best 10 Thermal Spa Hotels in the World! Wait no more…Visit it!"
A hotel that justly deserves its awards!
According to the "Conde Nast Traveller” this jewel of Edipsos is considered one of the best 10 Thermal Spa hotels in the world . A classy hotel of the past century appealing to the eye as it stands out with its outstanding architectural style. These days it combines an ultra-modern Spa resort and a luxurious hotel.
LOCATION: Built in the most beautiful location of the town in 1897, -the city of Edipsos is in the northern part of Evia only 2.5 hours from Athens. It is also accessible through Arkitsa and Glyfa through ferry depending on the part of Greece you come from.
ARRIVAL: The warm welcoming from the reception staff followed by refreshing drinks that made up for the long 4 hour drive we had. Check in does not take long especially if you are a repeater, since all details are kept safe in the computer. We did arrive 40 minutes earlier though and I have to admit I was sure that the room would not be ready due to high season, but we covered that time at the Spa filling the doctor's requested questions and arranging our Spa treatment appointments.
CHECK-IN & STAFF: If I had to use only one word it would be PROFESSIONALS with capital letters . The majority work here for years. Guests appreciate the personalized attention, something rare nowadays. Nothing seems much trouble for them. The staff at the reception know well how to handle with punctuality, this stressful post when the phone is ringing for information and guests show up to check-in. They are extremely friendly making check-in smooth. I will avoid mentioning names because I can easily write down at least 10.
UNIQUNESS: Being built over a group of Edipsos’ natural medicinal hot thermal springs coming from a depth of 3.000 meters and at a temperature of 75 degrees C the spot offers the highest quality thermal waters in the area.
ROOM: Our double room #259 was on the new wing overlooking the high standard exterior pool. It was spacious and well equipped with every possible comfort. The architecture of this wing is classical as well, to match with the old building. The interior furniture and the décor in all, reflects a living culture dedicated to elegance and to the pursuit of calmness and relaxation .
Have in mind that rooms lack complimentary coffee/tee facilities but we had a courtesy treat of one bottle of water and 2 apples this time!
BATHROOM: Roomy marbled bathroom, spacious and well lit. A shower cabin replaces the bathtub which is truly unnecessary since the whole day long guests are using the thermal spring pools. The shower cabin could have been preferably more spacious to fit larger in size guests but it was the right size for us anyhow. Towels are bright and fluffy with a smell of freshness and are changed daily.
Bathrobes, slippers, towels for the Spa and a hair drier are provided. The Branded (Olivo) toiletries included a vanity kit, a toothbrush and a shaving set, while the body lotion Bath gel and Shampoo have the smell of Narcisse. The texture is lovely and smell nice.
TIP: It is worth paying the few extra to get either a sea view room in the old building or a pool view with a balcony on the new wing. Rooms are functional with all necessary amenities for a comfortable stay but don’t expect luxury . Don’t forget that the highlights of the hotel are the pools and not the room’s pieces of furniture!
House-keeping service was in general impeccable and the ladies very sweet and ready to meet our needs any time.
WI FI: Free access throughout the premises. Guests are provided with a code which they can use to connect.
SPA: Edipsos became famous all over the world as one of the best Spa towns with high quality –one of the world’s top-three- natural medicinal water springs. This natural gift spurts from a depth of 3.000 meters for the last 20.000 years. A group of those springs is located within the resort making it an ideal place of rejuvenation, health and well-being.
The SPA experts and therapists are expertize professionals, and all treatments are of high standards.
Personally I had 2 treatments. A 20’ Farmer Steam Bath, -a combination of steam from fresh eucalyptus and aromatic therapeutic herbs offering a deep cleansing of the face and a relief in the respiratory system. The Mud application is one of the most popular here . It cleans and opens cells and mud is said to improve circulation, the skin’s condition and soothe sore tired muscles. It draws toxins out of the body and softens the skin. Both treatments are highly recommended.
The hotel has a whole host of amazing deals and discounts the year round with packages to meet the needs of all budgets. I advise that you take advantage of these to save money and perhaps manage to stay longer because you will definitely love it. In all, the thermal water is what makes the difference.
POOLS: The two pools are emptied every night and re-filled again with fresh water. The interior pool is filled exclusively with mineral spring water while the huge garden pool has sea-water combined with water from the springs. Both are well equipped with water sprinkler systems and underwater hydro massage devices that relax unbelievably and invigorate the entire body.
BREAKFAST: Local and quality products coming from the orchards and farms of the round area. Expect a rich American breakfast buffet, and breakfast low calorie that is daily updated . The variety is big and everything is nicely presented on the bench. Fresh orange juice is a fact here and it was my favorite.
If you are after nutrient cuisine, the menu will delight you because Natural and Healthy nutrition is an important part of the Philosophy of this hotel. (Thyme honey, eggs of the day, home-made seasonal marmalades, even desserts are traditional recipes). There is enough to fill you up till dinner I can say, and the culinary tastes are such that they meet the expectations of demanding guests.
BUFFET: Booking H/B is the best option. The Mediterranean/Greek recipes are outstanding and there are alternatives for a light cuisine and vegetarians can even find nutrient and delicious dishes to please their palate. The aroma and taste, the color of the dishes is such that they are so tempting that you want to taste everything.
The cuisine might disappoint only those who are not cautious of nutrient cuisine and who are after buffets that normal hotels present. (Quantity with lack of Quality)! They might find bigger variety outside but with no quality or taste . I am referring to the ones whose eyes need to be satisfied first and then their stomach! We see them piling up anything in their plate mixing sweet tastes with sour or salty. This place is certainly NOT for them!
On the contrary guests here are introduced to the secrets of healthy and natural nutrition and trust me, you will be delighted! Fresh fish/meat options and an enormous variety of vegetables, salads and fruit are on the daily menu.
THE OVERALL STAY IMPRESSION: The Wellness Spa resort is a Steady value and repeaters notice how it gets better year after year. Thanks for the great hospitality, keep the good work up guys…you are all amazing!
