Maria Aristou

Iconography is an art that addresses not only the visual, but more essentially the emotional .

I had the chance to meet the person who is behind all this marvelous work, as part of her workshop happens to be just across 'Stou Kir Yianni' where I was staying.

Cypriot Hospitality:

We did not meet in the workshop as you might have thought but out in one of the lanes.

Indeed this is how I met Maria and her friend Chrysoulla, the latter of
whom invited me to join them for a drink at the family’s
tavern
and I did.

Cypriots pride for their warm hospitality so I joined them with pleasure.

While chatting with my new friends, Maria mentioned that she is engaged in iconography from an early age, so I dropped by and saw the great work she does.

Iconography Lessons:

The deep religious feelings and the love and passion for the art let Maria to iconography from an early age.

In the workshop, visitors can watch the creation of a Byzantine icon, witnessing the old traditional methods and materials, egg tempera with natural colours and the 24 carat gold leaf.

Visit the Workshop of Byzantine icons to buy, order or even take iconography lessons.
See more of her works through the links.

Photos in random, the morning we met.
