Omodos, Cyprus

Superb Food, Genuine Cypriot Hospitality & Service Like Nowhere Else in Cyprus!

Try uttering the word 'Omodos' to a Cypriot and I bet you will hear 'Stou Kir Yianni" . This is how popular this place is. It has become synonymous with the village.

LOCATION: I was back here for two nights arriving by bus #40 departing from the EMEL central station opposite the Old Hospital of Limassol.

Buses are punctual and the fee is €3.00. Journey duration 105 min. approximately. The village of Omodos stands out in beauty and popularity and is about 42 kms north-west of Limassol.

CHECK-IN/SERVICE: I was welcomed warmly by the owner Stavros, his Mother, members of his family and the amazing team of the complex and restaurant.
They are all a group of happy people who have a close bond with the owner and his family. They don't only work as a team but the owner was telling me that he considers them part of his family. If you ask any of them you will get the same answer.

Service and customer care is the priority of the complex . Out here, you can experience the true authentic and warm hospitality that Cypriots pride of. The Team is exceptional, always with a smile and a good word, ready to meet the needs of their customers making them feel comfortable and welcomed. Never before have I come up with such dedicated team and I consider them an asset to the business.

OWNER: Stavros on the other hand is a true professional and even his competitors admit it.

He is on hand and everywhere, hard-working and passionate with his work.

I admire him as a person for what he is; humble and friendly, a perfectionist, extremely communicative and dynamic.

THE HOUSE:

The "white house" is where I stayed this time

You see, a couple of the houses are given names after colours. It was a two-storey building with a terrace, just a four-minute walk from the restaurant.

The old village house has been renovated to create a tasteful blend of old and new, offering an open-plan living room and a fully equipped kitchen with complete kitchenette facilities and an extra single bed on the ground floor.

The downside, was the very old TV set that urgently needs replacement. As it sits in the corner it seems as if it is part of the decoration, but it is obvious that the house needs one anyhow. It could be the smallest in size!

WI FI:

There was not the slightest Wi Fi connection in the house and this was frustrating
I had to get to the restaurant to connect and carry out my work on the laptop.

Perhaps the Community Council should undertake and offer free internet connection to the entire village.

I have seen it in other smaller and minor villages in Cyprus where the whole community enjoys it for free.

I cannot see the reason why not in Omodos!

UPPER FLOOR: A lovely antique iron double bed covers half of the upstairs space, with another singe on the ground floor. I enjoyed the most relaxing sleep during my stay.

The feeling of a stay here is exactly what it meant to be; a traditional village house. There was plenty of space for storing clothes and belongings, -a hairdryer as well and upon request iron facilities or anything that a guest might need is available as long as you let them know .

The bathroom a bit small but extremely clean with a shower cabin, plenty of towels and ample of toiletries for that extra pampering. Guests are the ones who can adjust the temperature of the room and water.

RESTAURANT: Masterfully planned the old family mansion-house has been transformed into a very welcoming, sensual and fascinating restaurant, a unique tavern with much atmosphere and style.

Highlighted times and again from Cyprus tourism, the Time Out Magazine and websites, it stands out by far. Well known to Cypriots, but foreigners are also aware of its existence. Most, combine the visit to the village with a culinary experience .

During my stay I met tourists who had come all the way from the other side of the Troodos Mountain to try the cuisine and enjoy the live music. We sat together after dinner, they were thrilled, danced and participated in the entertainment till the end of the program much later than midnight.

CUISINE: Combination of Mediterranean & Middle Eastern tastes.

The true stars of the kitchen is Stavro’s Mother loveable Mrs. Eftychia, the professional Chef Galin and his wife Margarita.

MEZE: Cyprus flavoursome dishes, 16 in all…you will get lost counting!

With a different approach to the typical Cypriot meze I dined here twice during my stay and I enjoyed the big variety. Every bite was exquisite .

The dishes are non-stop and you will get tired counting. The combination is great and every time you are brought a dish it is like a new surprise. (Check the menu)

There is the à la carte menu but I could also recommend the Set menu that gives the opportunity to try most of what is offered.

ENTERTAINMENT: Greek and international program.

Live music every evening; with Bouzouki and Dancing on weekends and Music nights for romantic dining with piano, violin or guitar on weekdays.

WINE TASTING Be sure to drop by the wine cellar located opposite the restaurant and have a wine tasting. Two Awarded wines from the Decanter Wine Competition taking place in Denmark 2016 already: The Delfis White dry (Xinisteri-Semillon and Delfis Rose dry (Maratheftiko –Grenache) . Exceptional quality and taste.

‘Argestis’ the other brand comes out in three choices; a Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz 2011, and Xynisteri. If planning to come here by group for wine tasting, call and let them know. Georgia who is an expert is there waiting to help you make the perfect choice and answer any of your questions. There is a special seating spot for groups at the back garden.
The home’s wine ‘Varelisio’ is also a great choice. Personally I prefer the red one.

THE VILLAGE: It is one of the 20 villages "Krasochoria” of the Wine Route, the fourth region of “Wines of Controlled Denomination” in Cyprus. The route offers the traveler beautiful scenery, forests, vegetation, farmlands, orchards, olive and almond groves and pretty villages with local produce.

It is the most visited village in Cyprus, rich in history with a plethora of wineries and a number of attractions . One such is the ancient Linos winepress which is found in the heart of the village and of course the Monastery of the Holy Cross that attracts pilgrimage tourists from all over the world.

The imposing cobble-stoned square stands out in beauty and leads off to several creative displays of art, craft and lace-embroidery. Like the rest of the tourist shops, the Dempsi glass blowing offers beautiful but expensive creations but lacking demonstration, can be considered another souvenir shop.

George’s Bakery & Confectionary serves a vast range of high quality breads, cakes, halvah, arkatena, soutzouko, and similar, available for tasting. Be sure to drop by.

IN ALL: I can’t speak enough for this business! I spent two dreamy nights surrounded by friends enjoying strolls and taking photos. Great hospitality, exquisite tastes, and the wonderful restaurant’s atmosphere. I urge my readers to come and find out for themselves. If you are after quality and wish to have a true Cypriot gourmet experience, this is the place to be!
