A RAINBOW IN THE SKY

After all that rain, a beautiful rainbow is out again .

A sign of hope and happiness. This is what I feel when I see one.

It is about 10.30 there is some sunshine, so I am off in the streets again heading for the city centre of Larnaca. I still have no mood in taking photos.

I get down to the shops which are nicely decorated and buy one or two things I need.

I visit my cousin Angela who is so busy sorting out old photos and preparing a surprise album for her son who is coming this week with his fiancé to spend the Christmas holidays with his family. The table is full of pictures, albums and drawings from all her children. Angela is tired but she seems to be happy and very proud of her family. She is a real good cook. I have tried her cooking skills when I visited her in South Africa.

I give her an A plus in her cooking . I remember when in S.Africa she would cook the most delicious dishes for us. We would dine in the dining room, the four or us, my husband and hers, as if we were dining at a 6* hotel.

It is already afternoon, and she insists that I stay and eat with them. The speciality today is a vegetable soup which I love. How can I resist!

We sit round the table, and the soup is superb. Seeing me asking for a second serving, she decides to have one for hersekf as well. So, we are all sitting enjoying our soup and chatting.

Today, I am supposed to be meeting a friend who is coming to see me in Larnaca. He knows how much I love taking photos and he offers to come and drive me downtown later on in the afternoon.

I don't stay long at Angela’s house because she has so much work to sort out with all those little papers on her table that I don’t want to delay her . She is already exhausted and she does not have much time either because she will be working tomorrow which means many hours away from home.

I kiss goodbye my cousin and walk home planning to get a nap and rest a bit.

But alas! The phone rings some minutes after getting home. My friend from Nicosia is in Larnaca, although we had arranged to meet much later and who promised to give me a ring before setting off from Nicosia.

My mum explains where the house really is, and in a few minutes he is here!

I leave Dimitri waiting for me while I am changing, and he is out with mum chatting. I really feel sleepy and tired because I had been walking all morning, however I have no other choice!

As soon as I am ready we drive off .It is still early so we decide to get to the new airport and sit at the cafeteria there so that I take some pictures.

The airport is really unbelievably beautiful. I am anxious to getting in and see how it looks. The cafeteria is almost full. It seems that many people choose to come out here to have their cup of coffee, tea or piece of cake.

Besides watching the aircrafts coming and going, it gives you a feeling that you are about to travel as well.

We get a seat and order two cups of coffee. The café is almost full, and soon an acquaintance of Dimitri sees him and comes to tell him something about the choir. A few minutes later another couple –relatives of my friend, join us and all four of us chat for almost one and a half hours. Their company is very pleasant, and I am glad that I got to know them.

It is already dark outside, and it is time for more photos before dinner .

Larnaca looks more beautiful in the evening with all these Christmas decorations. We are driving in the whole city, and we even get off the car together and walk to have even better photos.

Dinner time, and we are at a fish restaurant.

Most of the tables are empty, and there are three or four groups scattered in the two rooms, so we walk next to the window by the sea to get a table. We are told however that the tables are all reserved, but when asked if we smoke and we said that we don’t, we are given a very nice table next to the window in the next room.

The waves just break up on the restaurant’s window, and it is unbelievable how close this window to the waves is! There are huge waves coming from time to time covering the whole window . Oh it’s just awesome!

The waiter comes and we decide to have (fish mezedes), meaning that we are going to be brought a number of dishes, - two or three at a time – until we come to the last dish which is grilled fish.

Many times I have promised myself not to have these mezedes because what is brought is really too much for me. If it was a 3rd person, we could easily ask for 2 dishes of mezedes instead. At this point now it means that we are going to be brought ample again.

It’s nice chatting with Dimitri, and I am interested to know about the trip he had in Greece with his wife and the most recent one, the trip with the choir in Vienna. Dimitri is the person who was with us all those days while we were in Kakopetria with the choir two months ago. I asked Dimitri to tell me about the rest of the friends in Nicosia, and especially Yiannoula whom I feel as if I know her from the past . She is also a new friend, but I share strong feelings for this lady. As soon as I mention her name, Dimitri calls her and we arrange plans for the next day.

It is already late, and I have to get back home. Dimitri drives me home, and leaves for Nicosia. We have agreed that I go to Nicosia tomorrow morning and see Yiannoula as well.
