TIPS
EXPLORING THE ISLAND BY CAR
.
The best way to explore the island is by car.
There is an excellent road network that links the cities, making distances short and easy.
Remember to drive on the left hand side of the road just like in the United Kingdom. Greeks should find it difficult though as they drive on the opposite side.
BEST TIME FOR VISITING THE ISLAND:
Well, I believe every season is unique.
Even if your visit is in winter, you can enjoy skiing up the Troodos mountains, booking at a nice mountain resort.
Cyprus in the summer season is very popular, but the really best season to visit it is September when the weather is much better. It is not so hot or humid as in July or August
.
Ask anyone for Cyprus travel information and they will nearly always advise you to hire a car. It is the best way to get around the Island unless you want the added expense of taxis.
There are buses but they aren't a great deal of use unless you are on the main road and they only run between the main towns. You can kill two birds with one stone however if you pre-book your Cyprus car rental online and collect it at the airport. The average taxi fare works out at around 50 euros each way so logically that’s an instant saving if you return your car at the airport at the end of your holiday.
It is also advisable to use a company that has cars at the airport rather than the agents who offer to pick you up and drop you off. Even though their fee is all in the total price you are at their mercy when its time to leave for the airport
. Not so good if you arrive at the check in just after the coaches unload and spend an hour queuing.
Another useful item of Cyprus travel information concerns the whole business of hire cars and some of the common mistakes holiday makers tend to make.
Cyprus is hot! O.K. you knew that already but will you remember when it comes to selecting your Cyprus rental car? You would be surprised how many people forget to specify air conditioning when they book their car hire online. They set off from the airport towards their accommodation, realize just how hot it is and start feverishly stabbing at all the buttons on the dashboard.
Meanwhile the inside of the car is beginning to resemble a mobile sauna and the wife is giving them some serious ear ache. Ah well, at least the windows all wind down to let in plenty of that hot Cyprus air and they can always park in the shade
. Those trendy jeeps and cabriolets look great too but you won’t look too good when the sun has burnt your scalp off. Choose air con and drop the hood in the evenings that way you get the best of both worlds.
TAXIS
Be sure to tell the taxi driver where exactly you wish to be driven. Be specific, and make a deal before setting off. Be sure of what you are supposed to pay him.
Prefer the taxis with 6 or 7 other persons instead of picking a private taxi if you want to travel from one city to the other.
Taxis are quite expensive in Cyprus if you want to move around privately!
PLANNING TO VISIT CYPRUS IN SUMMER?
Cyprus is a very beautiful and romantic place to take a vacation. It is warm there most of the time so you can plan to spend your days engaging in various activities at the beach. If you love going to the beach, Cyprus is the place for you. You can spend your time surfing, swimming, boating, sailing, or any other water sport you enjoy. If you prefer a more sedate vacation, you can spend your days walking on the beach, fishing, or any number of relaxing pursuits. No matter what you prefer, if your vacation should include warm sunny beaches, Cyprus is for you!
To ensure you get the most out of your trip to Cyprus though you need to plan for it well in advance. You will save plenty of money on your vacation to this popular location if you go in the off season. However you may find that the weather isn't the best during that period of time. If you want to spend a get deal of your vacation at the beach then this isn't a good option.
There are plenty of elegant hotels and villas in Cyprus but you won't be spending very much time in them. You will get a better deal if you go with less prestigious accommodations but that are just as clean and close to the activities you want to enjoy. Many of the popular activities fill up quickly so you should consider scheduling your events before you go. This way you won't have to wait in line or be disappointed that you have to miss out on it.
You will need to have a passport or a visa in order to go to Cyprus. If however you are in Greece you can just show your identity card. Make sure you take care of this well in advance of making your travel arrangements. You won't be allowed to enter the country without the proper documentation. It is a good idea to carry a duplicate of your confirmation numbers, and phone numbers just in case you lose your originals.
Make sure you plan for weather as well because you will need plenty of sunscreen in this paradise. Pack plenty of loose fitting and light pieces of clothing for the daytime. It does tend to cool of a bit in the evening though so pack a sweater as well for such changes. Just be prepared for a variety of weather conditions, and you can be sure you're prepared for a great vacation!
If you're a European Union citizen travelling to Cyprus then make sure that you pack your E111 card - this will save you from having to pay for any medical treatment that you might need while you are on the island.
PACKING OF CLOTHES
Make sure you pack plenty of clothes for your trip to Cyprus because you will find it to be quite warm in the afternoons and cooler in the evening. Pack a variety of clothes that can be layered or changed - sorts, long pants, short sleeve shirts, long sleeved shirts, etc. Many people forget to pack a sweater to stay warm on those cooler evenings. Since there are plenty of different activities to attend as well as many restaurants you will want to pack some casual clothes as well as something dressier for a night out on the town. Of course, you should always take your beach clothes!
