THE TAXI DELAY



I am supposed to be in Nicosia at about 11am, so I book a taxi for 9 .30 am.

However the taxi does not show up, and so I have to call again and see why the delay. I am told that it is coming, in 10 minutes.



I don't want to be driven by a private taxi because it is quite expensive, so when the taxi shows up I notice that there are no other passengers in it.

I am surprised, so I ask why I am the only passenger. To my surprise I am told that I am the only person going to Nicosia, so I ask how much the drive will cost me. " 40 euros" is the answer.

It is already 10.30, and I am still in Larnaca.



There was no way I would go to Nicosia in a private taxi, so as the driver was already heading for the main road I told him to take me to another Taxi Company so that I could be driven along with other people, thus paying cheaply . I found it ridiculous to pay so much for just a drive of 30 minutes! Besides, I had to return to Larnaca in the afternoon, so the whole trip might cost me just as much as I paid for the flight ticket.

The flying tickets from Athens to Larnaca and back cost 90 euros, including taxes!



I am taken to the other company, and thankfully I hear that the taxi is leaving in 10 minutes. Thank God!

It was 11 am when the taxi left, but had to pick one or two other passengers from their houses, so it was already quite late when I reached Nicosia.



Dimitri is expecting me at a certain spot that we agreed to meet, and he drives me to our friend’s house – Yiannoula.



To my disappointment she tells me that she cannot come with us for lunch to the village, and I can perfectly understand her. She has only the weekend to do some work in the house, because the other days she is busy working.

Themis, her husband is coming along however, so off we go.



I am really looking forward to be driven to this beautiful little village which is very popular in Cyprus nowadays!
