Picture Portraits of the Masters

Perth, Western Australia, Australia
Larry "Skipper" Davies

The team's spiritual leader, Skipper achieved in India a higher level of consciousness than ever before thanks to red wine and painkillers.

Wayne “Dolly” Davies

Athletic and immaculately dressed on the field, Dolly is the pin up boy of the team. He is only interested in catching the difficult catches because they make him look good.

Brad “The Wall” Forbes

Brad has many aliases, but in India he was the Wall. Immovable. Not at the crease like Dravid, but anywhere and everywhere. His legs don’t work and he can’t move. Had to always sit in the front seat of the bus. Immovable.

Brendan “Chopra” Reid

The Talisman of the team and our Plan A, B and C. To win a game we needed Chopra to score quickly, retire and go back in at the end to score however many runs were needed. He did this twice and we won both times.

Robin “Reliable” Lovegrove

AKA The Major and The Prospector . The oldest in the team and the most multi skilled member of the tour party. De facto team security advisor. Always scored runs and bowled well. Never broke down and never stood twice in the same place in the field.

Barry “The Cougar” Wilson

There are 156 languages in India and not one of them has enough words to describe the Cougar adequately. His follow through is now legendary and his efforts on this tour have placed him in such an exalted place that he will never have to share a room on tour again.

Frank “The King” Collins

The Comeback King and the King of Club Sandwiches. The King broke down early with a bad hammy, missed a game and suffered the disappointment of a Diamond Duck, but through careful rehabilitation and attention to diet (nothing but chips and club sandwiches) the King came back to take wickets and score runs. The Prince may have to wait a while.

David “Long Steps” Steens

The allround good guy in the team. Everybody wanted to have a beer with Steensie. Laughs the loudest and the longest. Joint most improved tourist, but tended to run under airborne balls.

John “Short Steps” Sheridan

AKA The Esky. Consummate team man. Brought an esky all the way from Australia and ensured it was always full of beer and ice. Looked after the esky by sitting next to it on the bus and constantly tested the temperature of the beer.  Joint most improved tourist, but tended to never quite get to airborne balls.

Simon “The Whisperer” Joyner

The quiet man of the team. Uncontroversial and unobtrusive. Quietly accumulated runs with a minimum of fuss. Adapted to Indian conditions with ease. Discovered India is the home of slow bowling and that he was right at home.

Morrison “Murray” Todd

The team’s youngest member. Kept wicket, batted, bowled and fielded with panache and by instinct. When Murray plays cricket he doesn't think about it he just goes and does it, as the King will attest to after his diamond duck.

Greg "Catto" Catlin

Finished the tour confirmed as a day/night specialist. Led the team in six hitting (five apparently) and scored more at night under lights than the rest of the team.
