The Day Off

Singapore, Singapore
It was the day off. Breakfast attendance was staggered. The unaccompanied tended to eat later than those accompanied by their better halves.

There was no plan for the day, some team members went down to the impressive Gardens by the Bay using the excellent MRT, Frank however went for a 9km walk! It was a perfect day for cricket in Singapore, the sun was shining, rain was nowhere to be seen and by the early afternoon it was getting hot .

The more experienced retired to the roof top lap pool to rehabilitate tired bodies.

Tina and I wandered through Chinatown for a few hours and lunch in Smith St. Smith St used to be a open street with hawker carts selling cheap and tasty street food. Last year the the street was renovated and large mushroom shelters overhang the whole street keeping away the weather. The street carts have gone, replaced by permanent outdoor kitchens, and the street vendors have been replaced by whited coated chefs. In typical Singapore fashion all charm that existed has been stripped away and replaced by a concession that is making someone who is well connected a lot of money.

Late in afternoon after watching on TV the Eagles lose yet another game they should have won, it was up to the roof top pool joining the W. Davies, the Forbes and Frank for a swim. The glass walled pool turned out to be a trap for new players. Brad, people can see though glass and water, keep your hands in the air!

The Wallabies were playing the Kiwis in Rugby, and the rugby enthusiastic members of the touring party gathered to watch the game at the Boomerang restaurant on Robinson Quay along with half of the Aussie and Kiwi expats in Singapore. The place was packed and lively, but the drinks kept coming out. The liveliness died down a bit with the result being a draw.

After the game Tina and I along with Margaret and Wayne walked further along Robinson Quay and enjoyed Singapore Slings and pizza at an Italian restaurant. Then it was off to bed for an early start.
