First Day

Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, United States
WE finished final packing and out of the driveway at 6 am, a little later than we planned, but what the hell, we have 3 months!

It didn't take long to get into the rain, and rain was the order of the day - all day. We logged somewhere in the neighborhood of 475 miles without a major incident (except for me dozing off three times while driving...) Each was only a split second, but I still have to be extra careful about that. We only have 6,252 miles left to go. Ouch. Our first night was planned to be to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, that is a familiar stop coming or going from previous travels. The camping begins once we are south of the Mason Dixon line and temperatures and general weather conditions are reasonable. I paid dearly for not planning and packing a little better as things we needed were in several different packing containers.

Gas prices were ok, if $3.59 is reasonable (???) On the first fill we got 18.2 mpg and it should hold somewhere around that depending on elevation, winds, pressure on the gas pedal, etc.

I would have a photo to share, but...my cell phone would not connect with the motel's wifi. So, envision a windshield with heavy to light rain, windshield wipers going back and forth and many, many 18 wheelers on I-95, I-90, I-84 and I-81.

I like where it says what you did that day and it says "Rain". If it rains too much maybe you should head to southern Cali.
