Freaky Friday

Woodbury, Tennessee, United States
After sleeping in until an unheard of 7am, Dolly and I headed out from the South Lake Campground a few minutes after 9. The weather was overcast and the temps in the mid 60's which made for a pleasant drive across central Tennessee. We stopped for gas ($3.49 a gallon) and found our best mileage yet on the old Toyota...21 mpg!!! I was thoroughly pleased with that. We crossed into the Central Time Zone (moved our clocks back) and continued to head west on I-40. We stopped at a rest area and gathered a handful of books, maps and brochures on things to do and see in this area.

A friend of Dolly's on Facebook invited us to stop by for a visit on our way across - which we planned to do . Dolly was looking forward to reuniting again since they both left Medomak Valley High School in 1982. Our trip toward Woodbury took us on some backroads and truly wonderful scenery of central Tennessee. As we approached Woodbury, where they live, we learned that Vicki and Joe were 20 miles away from home in Murfreesboro, TN purchasing a truck. What they thought would take an hour or two turned into four so we decided to meet for supper at Appleby's. After a super meal and fun conversation, they invited and we accepted to spend the night with them. After a quick trip to Walmart we headed to their home in Woodbury about 20 miles away. Upon our arrival, we found that their daughter's dog had gone through a fence and had either been hit by a car or kicked by a horse. Their daughter, who works at Coyote Ugly in Nashville, was contacted and Joe took the pooch to the vet.

I have been truly impressed with how friendly the people of Tennessee are. While at Walmart, we picked up a few things to cook while camping, a jug of water (we were warned no to drink campground water) and I needed a decent camping chair. As I was looking at chairs, I selected one at random, pulled it off the shelf, took it out of the bag and opened it up and sat down to try it out. A few seconds later three Walmart Associates walked down the aisle and one stated: "if you sit in it longer than three minutes, you have to buy it." I asked her if I did sit in it longer than three minutes, if I could get a discount? She replied no. I then asked her "why not? It is USED!!" We all had a good laugh about that.

Enough for now. Goodnight.
