Durant, Oklahoma, United States
Monday brought a continuation of our trek west from Tennessee to Oklahoma. We had a great travel day, in the 70's partly cloudy and very good roads. We used US Route 70 for most of our 250+ mile trip which took us through rolling forested hills into the eastern part of the cattle raising grasslands. We arrived in Durant during the early afternoon, stopped to see Dolly's good friend from elementary school Susan Lawson and her significant other "Hop." After a short and nice visit, we headed to the lake.

Lake Texoma is about 12 miles west of Durant and is a large man-made lake . Evidently there has been a severe drought as the lake is down about 10 feet. The Johnson Creek Campgrounds is managed by the Corps of Engineers and is a wonderful campground on the shores of the lake. The roads and pads are paved water and electricity available with a fairly nice shower and bathhouse facility. The normal price is $20 dollars, but Dolly signed me up for the America The Beautiful (Senior Pass) which knocked the price down 50%. $10 is a great price for this campground! At sunset, we scrambled to head toward the lake with our cameras. Chi-Chi was chilling in the back of the truck and in a hurry we took off for the lake. We got about 25 yards and the dog decided to come with us...sans leash (my fault). So I snapped pix and Dolly chased after the dog that had picked up the scent of what some nearby campers were having for supper. In fact, we are staying another night here. Dolly and Susan are planning to get together this afternoon.
This entry is being made from a laundrymat as Durant's only McDonalds has been torn down and a new one is being built in its place (remember - no wifi at the campground).
Tomorrow we're on the road west again. (Oh, Dolly asked me to tell those of you who follow Dolly's share of this blog to check your privacy settings.)

Enjoy the pix. Love ya!

Cheers!
