Amarillo - 2, Texas, United States
Our saga continues in Amarillo. Our exploration of interesting sights in Amarillo directed us within the city to the famed "Route 66." We had the address and let our GPS (Bertha) guide us to it. After making a couple of turns and back tracking we found it. We drove the length of this famed stretch of Amarillo and were a bit let down on what we found. I expected an area that was vintage late 1950's and lots of places to get souveniers. None of that. We saw a lot of tattoo parlors, run down houses and old shabby bars. We took a couple of photos at the start of the "stretch" but that was it. Maybe we'll find a better Route 66 later. I remember the early 1960's TV show "Route 66.". Next, just west just out of town along I-40 we set out to find Cadillac Ranch. We had directions and a map but had a bit of difficulty finding it. We got off the interstate at the designated exit and the map said "two miles west." So..we traveled two miles west on a frontage road. Nothing. We back tracked and went two miles east and we found it. Dolly had researched things to do in this area and had written down Cadillac Ranch where a number of cadillacs where halfway dug into the ground. It reminded me of an American vehicle Stonehenge. I guess I expected 20 or 30 or more, but only found 10. We pulled over and walked about 500 yards to the "attraction." Several others were there and it made for some interesting photographs.
The rest of the day was slow, relaxing, taking in the 80 degree temperatures and sunny skies
