Waldoboro, Maine, United States
Our last leg of our two-month trip began in Albany, New York. We continued across Interstate 90 into Massachusetts, New Hampshire and finally Maine. While driving the last part of the trip, I wondered how long it would be before I wished I was back on the road, enjoying the sights, sounds and experiencing our great country. But, on our last day, both Dolly and I were glad it was about over. It was rather exciting to cross the river between New Hampshire and Maine and seeing the sign at the border. We made a quick "pit stop" (the last of hundreds) at a rest stop a few miles up the interstate. I remember smelling the pine trees during the early afternoon and welcomed the eventuality that in a couple of hours, we'll be "home" and in our own house, our own kitchen, living room, bathroom and, of course, our own bedroom and bed.
The further we drove, the longer it seemed to take . But finally, we were on Route 1, with our mailbox coming into view and a left turn into the driveway. Everything seemed to be a blur as I tried to remember what it was like the morning we left on April 15th and how lush and green everything looked. As I pulled into "my" parking place, I looked down at the odometer and it read "10,755" miles. Our trip was officially over.
It will take a couple of days to completely get our "RV" cleaned out and everything put into its place. We did the lion's share this morning.
I am particularly thankful to Dolly who deserved this trip, who left her full time job and while she didn't physically drive even one mile, she watched my driving like a hawk and reminded me of speed limits, things and people in the roadway, managed the maps and GPS and was a champ throughout. Not many women would sleep in the back of a pickup, put up with my bullshit and go places and do things she honestly didn't care about. But she did...and didn't complain at all. Not once.
Lastly, I'm going to share a few photos of the trip that didn't make the first cut and were not previously published.
Thank you for following our trek across the country, We thoroughly enjoyed the trip and loved your "likes" and comments.
We plan on publishing a book of our "blog" and will enjoy it for years to come.
