To day was a free day to do as you please. Graeme the tour guide arranged for those that wanted to go, a half day trip to the cape. This was an extra to the tour but filled some of the day in.
A lot of us wanted to go to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela spent many years in a cell
The bus picked us up at the hotel at 8:30am with a local guide who gave a commentary all the way down to the cape,
Had a couple of stops to take photos and visit the little room.
Stopped at an Ostrich Farm 10:20am, which had a gift shop attached to it but trying to take an Ostrich egg home seemed to me a challenge, so my money stayed in my pocket.
We arrived at the cape about 1100am a very bleak place only low scrub growing.
Went up to the light house in a cable car which saved considerable energy as it would have been a good climb.
There was the usual tourist shops there along with a slow fast food . Got a pizza and was last back on the bus!!
The group had it's Photo taken at the southern most point .The guide told us us to stand our ground against the Asians who would push in.But we really did not have any problems with them. The bus refused to start for 10-15 mins but after some wiggling of wires it burst into life.
The next stop the driver parked on a rise and we all got out and pushed the Bus to start it.
We stopped at Simon's Town 1:30 pm to see the penguins. there were hundreds of them, Simon's Town is also the South African Navel base.
From there we traveled back up the coast then across the peninsular back to our Hotel.
This left several hours to fill in so I caught the courtesy bus down to the Water Front
Shopping Complex which every one in Capetown was talking about. This complex is huge several stories high. And spread over a large area There was a big Ferris wheel there which gave you a great view of Cape Town and the Table Mountain. The wheel was not as big as the London Eye but still worth it.After the ride I decided to have tea down there so ordered Fish and Chips. It would have been the worst F&Chips I have ever had cooked in oil and not drained properly tasted awful and soggy. Rubbish tin was the final resting place for them. Then caught the Bus back and rested up for the next day which was an early start.
