Trieste Italy to Cinque Terra via Bologna Italy on an overnight train - Bologna was, ummmmm, SCARY!

OMG, what an adventure!!!!!! Just look at the photos!

 First train was nice . We had our own cabin and the seats folded into a bit like a bed called a couchette. We would have a layover in Bologna. Both of us fell asleep for maybe two hours until a stop where many people got on and the door of our cabin opened and we were told we had to share...so our private little sleeping arrangement was now shared with an old lady and two younger guys. Off we go to Bologna for two more hours of heads bobbing and probably some drooling as we tried to sleep sitting up. 

Now the adventure. A 2:45 lay over starting at 2:12 AM in the morning in a pretty seedy train station where all the homeless must camp out to get in under a roof for the night. We sat in some dirty chairs hanging on tight to our backpacks in a packed room with a very strong smell of body order, urine smell, cigarette smell, alcohol smell, one woman sounding like a cat constantly trying to hack up a hairball and a entire chorus of dirty men asleep snoring as loud as you could ever imagine. Oh and the chatter of some old women in Italian of course talking as loud as possible to hear each other over the snoring choir. And just think, we were experiencing this, all because we were saving money and traveling at night instead of spending money on a room. About half way into our "layover" Mike leans over to me and says...."so just how much money did we save doing this?".....again made some memories!
