Prince Leonard himself - Hutt River Province

Hutt River Province, Western Australia, Australia
It is truly enjoyable to meander for a change when heading North!

After a week in Dongara and Geraldton catching up with friends we headed off and had our first night at Coronation Beach, just North of Geraldton where camping is only $5 per vehicle and a stone's throw from the beach . Then it was onto Horrocks and Port Gregory for a bit of a look about.

We then took the rather long trek inland to Hutt River Province. Prince Leonard himself welcomed us and showed us around. He is an absolute charming enigma - 80 years old and still loving every bit of his controversial lifestyle.

Hutt River officially ceded from Australia in 1970 to become a province and over the years Prince Leonard has engaged and been engaged in many legal battles regarding the status of his "country" including a major battle with Australia Post over his issuing postage stamps and having a post office.

Prince Leonard tells us he has 27,000 visitors a year to his little province, so he must be well and truly on the tourist map for overseas visitors, who want to see something a little quirky and fun!
