The rain is still teeming down as we arrive at the Bus Area with Chris in Unyuni, and we realize the bus has not arrived. Avan tells Chris not to wait, he has all ready provided much appreciated assistance, and we squeeze into the bus office with the rest of the passengers out of the rain. Eventually the Bus arrives and we set off on a very uncomfortable 13 hour trip to La Paz. There is no room between the seats at the start, but when the people in front reclined their seats, our stuff is trapped underneath and our knees bruised. We do however manage some sleep.
On arrival in La Paz bus station we immediately grab a bus to a hostel and manage to be checked into a private room
. (none were showing as available on the net, but we were not going to argue). The hostel recommended a tour office, Julius' tours Travel Agency, just around the corner to discuss tours to the Amazon (turns out the Hostel and the Tour Office are the same group). Amazingly we are told there is a flight with space leaving this afternoon, and given this will put us ahead of schedule, we opt to book two tours, one to the Pampas area and another to the Madidi Jungle, flying into Rurrenabaque, both with Indigena Tours.
We go back to the Hostel and embarrassingly cancel our room, and settle into do some Internet while waiting for the time to catch our flight. A short while later the hostel receptionist finds us to say that the tour company has rung to advise that all flights into Rurrenabaque had been canceled, and we were to be rescheduled to a Tuesday flight. We have no option but to request our room back, and for two days, thankfully it is still available. However we are now thinking we are committed to too long in Bolivia, and worse there are rumblings of trouble brewing with the announcement of a 70% hike in fuel prices.
We settle in to enjoying La Paz and quite enjoy the area we are in. We also catch up with James and Megan in the hostel (from our Unyuni tour) and have a lovely evening out.
