Plovdiv, our last city before Istanbul and the end of this busabout trip, looked charming as we went out for an orientation walk. The soft late afternoon light filtered through onto the cobblestone streets, surrounded by restored 3 to 4 story buildings, now antique shops and gorgeously inviting outdoor cafes.

The streets were very busy with families out enjoying the warmth of the first day of summer and we came across a children's dance concert . Thinking it was unusually busy we asked why and was told it was "children's day". It made it a little more interesting to be part of a special day. Plovdiv streets are quite steep and there is evidence everywhere of excavations of Roman Ruins. Climbing to the top of a quite steep street we suddenly got a glimpse of an amazing Roman Amphitheater. A concert was going to be on that night and was being prepared for, but the doorman let me take a quick picture.

Damo, found us an amazing restaurant, called Dayan, with great atmosphere, fabulous food and inexpensive drinks. He told us he found it on one of his previous trips by accident, when he got lost! Eating with locals instead of a restaurant aimed at tourists is always much more fun. One of the signature dishes of Plovdiv is meat and vegetables, on huge big skewers like a sword and the meat is theatrically whisked off the skewer and onto the diners plate.

After dinner, the nightclubs were calling again, Plovdiv being noted for its amazing nightlife. Rumour had been floating around the bus that a particular nightclub put on very eye popping floorshow each night, sometimes directed at male patrons and other times more biased to the female taste. Some of the crew took a rain check, while the rest headed off for a very boozy (it has been suggested at some stage, two of the party goers purchased and emptied a bottle of Red Label) and enjoyable night, albeit no floorshow materializing.
