Please don't tread on the iguana

Korotogo, Western, Fiji
I found Fiji a lot more tolerable this time - don't ask me why it should be cooler and less humid in their summer than their winter, I think I'm definitely a higher latitude person! Anyway, the GPS flipped over to S and E co-ordinates as we crossed both the dateline and the equator, and we settled in to our beachside bungalow on the Coral Coast for a week.

Not a great deal happened, although we did bestir ourselves across the road to the wildlife park. Here they immediately hand you an iguana, which clings on for a while before deciding to hop into the distance. We also got to hold a baby boa constrictor which makes an excellent bracelet.

We went back to the Lovo feast at the adjacent village, where as a repeat visitor Andy was elected chief for the night (cue much Fijian mickey-taking). Much kava was drunk and we've also learnt (after the visit of the tree-climbing gardener) that the green coconut is much tastier than the hairy variety which falls down.

We went snorkelling several times;Andy reports encounters with both a moray and a large colour-changing octopus, as well as a black-tipped shark. And all without scuba!

And so we're now in the land of long evenings and preparations for a warm Christmas. As soon as we have our car, the odyssey will commence!
