ZURICH TO QUARTEN 80KM

Quarten, St. Gallen, Switzerland
12-20deg, fine and sunny with a little cloud in the afternoon. Left the motel at 7:35am in brilliant sunshine but a cool 12deg. A slight tailwind most of the way pushed us along the northern shore of Lake Zurich nicely. The day was a mix of on-road bike paths, dedicated bitumen bike paths and hard packed gravel paths, all easy going.
Passed through some quaint Swiss villages and rural areas . Not far after leaving the shores of Lake Zurich we joined another, Walensee, which our motel overlooks. We are on the ninth floor but the design of the room does not take advantage of the aspect. The only down side to staying in a monastery is that they build them on the top of hills, 2km of hard slog to get to the place! In the room by 2:15pm so made good time, average speed 19.1km/h. A great day 1 on the bike, the surprising part is that we are still married!!
