Oh, what a great sleep. We went to sleep at our regular time and woke this morning around 7:30 am with no hint of jet lag. The hotel at which we are staying ( Reykavik Residence Suites) is fabulous. It is located right downtown in a beautifully restored 2 storey building. We were upgraded to a one bedroom apt that was gorgeous. This morning, breakfast was delivered to our door - a fresh warm multigrain bread to supplement the basket that was delivered last night to our fridge containing breads, hard boiled eggs, jams, cornflakes, brie, chocolate, cheeses, ham, baby bels, bacon spread, and yogurts, orange juice and fresh milk - a smorgasbord in a basket. There was so much food that we couldn't even finish it for lunch. Wonderful.
Prior to setting out for our trip around the country, we stopped at one of the two huge malls in Reykjavik to buy SIM cards for our iPhone and iPad. For $40 we got 60 minutes of phone time and 10 gigs of data. We would have to take out a mortgage in Canada to get that kind of service.
We then set out for the Snaefellsnes Peninsula in the western part of the country. The scenery here is so beautiful that it's hard to believe that It's real. The further down the Peninsula we go, the more beautiful it gets.
Prior to coming onto the peninsula, we took a 5.7 km tunnel under the North Atlantic. Can you imagine, the tunnel had wifi. Since I installed a new SIM with 5 gigs of data, I was busy surfing the net and answering emails. Amazing.
Right now we are at the tip of the peninsula in the Hotel Hellnar - an expensive but very simple hotel (considering the outrageous price). It's located on a hill overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The site is beautiful and very remote.
Dinner was at the hotel. We had smoked trout, lamb loin, chocolate cake and skyr mouse(local version of yoghurt) all rinsed downwith a bottle of Spanish red wine.
Tomorrow we visit Snaefelljokull, the huge but dormant volcano which formed this area millions of years ago.

I loved reading your postings! You will see the volcano that inspired Journey to the centre of the Earth. Hope you enjoyed the museum of Iceland as much as we did - it really gives you an excellent overview of Iceland's history. There was an item in the news about how unseasonally cold it is there - I guess you're experiencing it. Good idea about the down coat.
