Northeast, Northeast, Iceland
Today we finally toured Akureyri. We went to their iconic Akureyri Church, built high on the hill with most impressive towers in front and amazing pipe organ inside. We were there during mass so we got to hear the choir and organ and sermon. Couldn't understand a word but it sounded great.

Next we saw the 'The Outlaw' sculpture of a man carrying his son and his deceased wife as he looked for a place to bury her in consecrated land (thereby making him an outlaw) .

We visited the shopping area wherein a was cable to find the gem of the city ghat she now wears around her neck.

The botanical gardens, outside, was beautiful and gave us the opportunity to play with our camera. Fall has fallen but there were still many plants in all their glory as the purpose of these gardens is to highlight sand demonstrate what grows well in this environment.

The Aviation museum was a real thrill, showing the history of aviation in Iceland. They were most proud to show us a DeHaviland Beaver (Canadian) that they had restored and refused to allow Harrison Ford and Bill Gates to purchase.

We set out to go to Lake Myvatn and saw the Godafoss waterfall on the way. It is like a mini Niagara Falls, but with history. This is where the Law Speaker of the Iceland Parliament threw his pagan statues onto the falls and proclaimed the whole country as Christian in the year 1000.

In Myvatn we are staying in a farm guesthouse where the food is mostly from the farm. The lamb (shank and loin) were the best yet.
