Volleyball Veterans Fall

North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia
Such a busy day doing nothing....we started with a leisurely breakfast and then the boys had booked massages to see what all the fuss was about. Rosie and I played a little ping pong (just to tick it off the list) and then joined Jude in the pool. With so much action it was time to sit and read on the sun lounges, and chat to Gusti about our "program" for tomorrow. We have ordered a firework display for tonight - just because we can. Gusti is keen to make our stay as wonderful and memorable as possible, and he's doing a great job.
The boys loved their massages, and then booked golf for tomorrow, negotiating through Gusti for a better deal .
Time for pre-lunch cocktails, we got cooking in the kitchen and made sugar syrup for mojitos. We did a great job. We had lunch on the lawn, and then headed out for some beach action. Mike and Jude went for a romantic walk and Ken and I went kayaking. Well Ken paddled and I had a nice ride, helping occasionally with a little steering. We saw some flying fish skipping across the water. Linda and Kim gave the kayak a go, but abandoned ship. We all swam in the beautiful warm water, donning snorkels and flippers. There was a giant starfish that was pretty cool and a few little fish, but not a lot else. The coral has been destroyed and the water was cloudy today.
Back to the pool to rest from all that activity until Gusti blew the whistle for the big volleyball game. He had rallied the staff and we split into teams. He runs a fast paced game, blowing his whistle, calling the score and controlling the play. The net is strung between two palm trees and the sun was setting over the ocean as the games finished. Beautiful! We all played well . the boys were throwing themselves around trying to make the shots. The girls did pretty good, making some good shots or running away if it looked too hard. There was always a man who wanted to make himself look strong and capable. Jude showed off her mean serve and her side took the fist 2 games. Linda was our official photographer. After a drinks break we split into boys and girls teams, with Gusti and a couple of the young boys joining the ladies team. We did well, almost coming, back but the boys beat us. We would have done better if the security guard (who was on our team) hadn't kept poaching our shots, thinking he was much better than us. He wasn't!
The boys may have won the war but they looked like Dad's Army at the end of the day. Phil's recently operated knee was swollen, Mike's ailments were flaring up, Ken's dicky wrists were troubling him. Kim seems to have survived the volleyball, but he does appear to have a broken toe - suffered sometime yesterday. He has no idea what happened.
Dinner was a seafood BBQ down by the beach. Lobster, prawns, tuna, snapper and calamari. Delicious! This was topped off with our special fireworks display! How good is this place....
After dinner we sat back by the pool and the boys watched some of Le Tour de France....while icing injuries.
Lots of laughs with great friends - a great day.
