The boy's program for the day included 18 holes of golf. Actually that was all they had on their program. They were up early, ready to go when the golf carts arrived at the front door.
We had a more leisurely start and then after breakfast Gusti herded us together and we headed down to the beach, where our boat was waiting to take us over to Gili Air
. We can see the island from our beach and Rosie is sure she could kayak all the way! It was a short trip in the glass bottomed boat.
Once there we went for a walk along the street. It is a quiet, simple place, with very little facilities. Gusti came with us, telling us a few things about the island, but mostly just hanging with us to make sure we were ok. The island reminded us of Rotto, with the cabins and laid back lifestyle. There are no motor vehicles, so transport is bikes and horse and cart. The horse and carts were flying along the little street. There are quite a few restaurants and bars along the beach, with a beautiful view back to Lombok and the mountains. It was a bit overcast, with clouds over the mountains, so everything was in gorgeous muted tones. We found a little shop to buy a few trinkets to take home and then headed back to Scallywags Restaurant for lunch. Lunch was ok (we have been spoilt by Anandita). A pearl seller found us while we were having lunch and we all managed to negotiate a deal for ourselves
.
After lunch we hopped back onto the boat and coasted out a little where we donned snorkels and flippers and jumped into the warm water. Gusti had some bread and all the little fish came crowding around. They were really pretty. Once I got my goggles sealed and Jude got her technique sorted it was lovely. The coral is all pretty well dead (Phil will tell you it's from dynamite fishing) so after being on our exquisite Ningaloo Reef it was not all that impressive. There are a lot of dive places around so there must be some good diving somewhere. One of the other islands has a turtle sanctuary which would be nice to see.
Back on the boat, back home and pool time, before the massages we had booked. Burping Betty was in fine form! Fortunately she has sensational hands. We were all chilled and relaxed.
The boys arrived home full of noise and stories. They had come back on their buggies for lunch after their first nine for the "best lunch so far". The caddies at the golf club were very disappointing. Apart form that they had a great day.
We had drinks and laughter in and by the pool before going down to the beach to enjoy the sunset. It is such a beautiful place. We are constantly oohing and aahing at this paradise we have found ourselves in. After the photo shoot on the beach it was time to prepare for dinner. We have chosen for the "starlight lawn" option tonight and the staff created such a beautiful setting. Dinner was delicious curries, followed by chocolate fondant or caramelised bananas. The fondants won the day, the bananas were not so good. The company was magnificent.
Another evening of music, dancing and singing. The boys took in a bit more of Le Tour De France, drifting off after their big day.
