Singapore, Singapore
Today we decided to head to the Singapore Art Museum - SAM. We caught the MRT which takes you straight across the road from the Bras Basah stop. The museum had some great exhibits, one was particularly fantastic - a Seuss type construction of beautifully fine metalwork and mechanism by Choe U-Ram. Some of the exhibits were a little gruesome, but it was a nice gallery in a lovely old building.
After refuelling at a coffee brewery we hopped back on the MRT to Marina Bay to the beautiful ArtScience Museum in the spectacular lotus shaped building on the bay . The DaVinci exhibition was on so we bought tickets for that and headed in. It was very good, showcasing all his ideas and inventions, with a little art thrown in. I thought it was pretty good, Ken loved it, Talia wanted more science and Larissa decided she didn't like DaVinci.
Next on our agenda was to go up to the boat on top of the Marina Sands hotel. We got the lift to the bar - Ku De Ta. You can buy a ticket yo go up to the Skypark or buy a drink at the bar. It was really hot and the sun was cooking us up there, but the views were great and the cocktails and beer tasted refreshing.
It was decided that we should eat something now; at 3pm Talia had only had a cocktail. We went down into the basement of the shopping centre and had salad and chips. Very nutritious? No.
Talia wanted to head back to the hotel and rest, but we out-voted her and started walking to Promenade station to go to Haji a Lane. We walked across the Helix Bridge, which was lovely. The MRT took us a short walk from Haji Lane, an interesting narrow lane of shops and some eating places . It is in the Arab district and full of character. We bought a few things as we wandered in and out of shops along the short lane.
A taxi home (or near home, the driver didn't know where to go and just dropped us off 5 minutes away) for a rest/pool break before heading out for dinner.
We got a taxi to the Raffles Shopping Centre with a lovely driver who pointed out interesting buildings along the way. Salt Tapas and Bar by Luke Mangan is outside the shopping centre, opposite the Raffles Hotel. We had a fabulous meal with a jug of delicious sangria.Desserts were delicious too (Ken's was best - a dulce del leche semi freddo).
We walked through the Raffles Hotel to check out the architecture and grandeur, before getting a taxi home to pack and get ready to fly home tomorrow.
