Paris, Île-de-France, France
We survived the flight and the late night chatter of the "Kardashians". Getting out of Paris Airport was pretty easy and we caught a taxi to our apartment. Of course we were at the wrong building, but were shown by a friendly Parisian man to ours, just up the road. Then we got in the big doors, to a lovely courtyard with no markings on the doors. We found another friendly Parisian who directed us to the correct door. After another phone call to our Airbnb landlord the cleaner let us in to drop our bags. She still had some work to do so we headed out for coffee. Our street has lots of places to eat. We sat over cafes, baguettes and croissants and admired the street and surroundings.
We tossed a coin to decide who has first choice on the bedroom options . We won and got the master suite, a beautiful room overlooking the street below. Mike and Jude have a funky mezzanine room which is very nice except you can't actually stand upright in it. Jude can lay on the bed and touch the ceiling with her toes. We have 2 bathrooms and a lovely kitchen, dining/sitting area. It is all well appointed, clean and fresh.
Time to be tourists, we headed towards the Champs Elysee and detoured to the Grand Palais and the Petit Palais. The little old Petit had free admission so we wandered in. They have some lovely works of art and the building is really beautiful, for a Petit Palais.
Back on the track we enjoyed looking at all the shops and all the people. The Tour de France will finish here in just over a week so there are a lot of preparations going on. An ice cream for lunch (our body clocks are not sure what time it is, but it is always ice cream time) at Jeff de Bergs was delicious. We walked up to the Arch de Triumph before heading back towards the apartment, checking out the shops on the other side of the road.
After resting we chilled with some wine, beer and really yummy cheese we had bought at the supermarket while we made some plans. We finally made it back out the door and headed to the Seine, admiring Pont Alexander III (very ostentatious), the river and the crowds enjoying a beautiful summer's night. We strolled through the stunning Tuileries before heading back in the general direction of our apartment. We are staying in the 8th, in Saint Honore.
As we still hadn't eaten a proper meal today we were on the lookout for a restaurant. We finally ended up in Place de Madeleine and sat outside in a bistro there. The food was ok, but expensive. The waiter was really friendly and the company wonderful. We were now exhausted at 10pm and made the trek home to bed for a sleep we have all been waiting for for a couple of days.
