Back on the road and headed towards Paris, the views out the windows were of light industrial and outer suburban houses. This will be our last drive in the car. The boys have done a great job getting us around the country and are pretty comfortable sitting on the wrong side of the road now.
Of course that didn't stop us getting a bit lost to drop the car off . We needed to get to the Montparnasse train station and we missed a couple of turns, so had some route recalculations as we all kept look out on the road and the GPS screen to keep on track.
With the car dropped off we were a little early for our apartment, so had an average coffee at the train station while we watched a very ill man sneeze all over the tables he was cleaning. Hand sanitiser time!
A short taxi ride and we were outside our building. We did not get lost! We found it first time! This is actually a first. After a short wait we were shown in and given a tour of the apartment. It is very nice and in a good location in the 5th arrondissement.
I convinced the others that we should be out on the street. We were all a bit weary, but this is Paris and we have a short time, so we went for a wander towards the river and over the bridge to the Isle. We were gravitating towards Berthillon for an ice cream, but Mike was wanting something more substantial so we stopped for a crepe first. I had a plain salted butter one .
Then we went for ice cream to the legendary Berthillon. I had a salted caramel, yummo!
Back to the apartment for showers before going out to meet our friends, Bec and Bob, who arrived this afternoon from Perth. We arranged to meet at Saint Michel's Fountain and they were waiting for us. It was lovely to see some familiar smiling faces who spoke our language (and I don't just mean English).
We walked through the crowded tourist strip of Rue Les Huchette and found a place for a drink. The waiter claimed to be a pom and kept walking past calling out about how good the wallabies are. He was a bit of a character, but seemed more French than English and enjoyed telling us about his luck with the ladies. We ordered a few pizzas between us and bored Bec and Bob with all our exploits! We had a fun evening before they shuffled off to their apartment and bed, after their long flights.
We kept walking and found a cafe on the corner of Petit Pont and had a drink while admiring the beautiful Notre Dame on the river. It was a beautiful balmy night and there was a lot of traffic and people to keep us enthralled. We then walked through the forecourt of the cathedral and admired all the details illuminated. There was a roller skate group doing their thing on one of the side streets. We watched for a while as one guy kept moving the bar higher and higher and jumping over. The final jump would have been about 3 metres off the ground, using a ramp for elevation. He had such a long roll up that he had to wait for the traffic lights to change. He was quite entertaining and quite the showman.
Another long walk home and off to bed.
