Finding a Family

Kilsyth, Scotland, United Kingdom
We picked up the hire car and headed out of the city, towards Glasgow. We were booked into the Coachman Hotel in Kilsyth for a family reunion. Not long after we had booked our flights the family of my Dad's maternal grandparents (I think. That sounds quite convoluted) were getting together. Not the best of timing, but also excellent timing, we decided to head there at the start of our trip.
Not the best of timing because we arrived after 24 hours of travel at 11 .30am and the reunion started at 5.30pm. So, once at the hotel, we showered and rested. Ken was still sleeping when my dad's cousins dropped over at 5. George kindly came back an hour later and drove us to the function centre at the Gartcosh Social Club.
George is the only one I had met, though there had been a bit of Facebook communication with others recently. As we walked in we were warmly welcomed and a great night was under way. It was such a fun night. It was interesting to walk into a room full of strangers and realise you are related to every one of them! My parents had been over 8 years ago and have warm memories of everyone. The lovely family they had stayed with also looked after us for the evening, great company and great people.
By the end of the night I was trying desperately not to yawn rudely when talking to people, but I was really running out of steam. We got home at about midnight and were asleep very quickly, even though there was quite a bit of noise in the pub below.
The general feeling about the Brexit referendum is not positive. Everyone we spoke to is not happy with the result to leave the EU. Of of the people at the party said they woke up and thought about moving to Australia.
