On the road to England

Watermillock, England, United Kingdom
We drove out of Edinburgh with the city basking in sunshine. We had really enjoyed our time there and it is a beautiful city. Stella had us going through the city centre. We missed a turn and did a huge lap and were finally on the highway heading towards England.
We passed through a lot of pretty little villages . We came to the village of Moffat. When we flew through Doha on the way over we met Ken's former workmate, he is a Moffat and suggested we stop here. It is quite a large village. We got out in sunshine and went for a wander to stretch our legs before having a coffee. Of course, it soon started to rain! We had a coffee at the Rumblin' Tum, apparently the perfect stop for the senior citizen. The coffee was pretty good and we were soon back on the road.
We crossed the border and were now in England.
We decided to fuel up before getting to the Lake District and pulled into one of the service centres off the highway. They charged £123.9/litre, £52 total. We should have waited until off the highway where we saw it for £111.9
We arrived at our destination, Watermillock, early and so decided to drive to Windermere for a look around. It is a large tourist town, quite pretty and busy. We went to a Boots supermarket and stocked up on a couple of things, then back to the car and the winding drive back to Watermillock. This area looks so beautiful, big hills, green but also rugged with sheep grazing on them. The lakes are really pretty and there are lot of people around. On the way back there were cyclists trying to share the road. The roads are narrow and some are wall or hedge lined, making it difficult to pass another car, so the cyclists were riding a scary path.
Out host, Julie,is lovely and settled us into our room. It is nice with views over the hills and glimpses of Ullswater Lake. We rested for a while and thought about where to go for dinner. Julie had given a few suggestions, some of which were in Pooley Bridge, a little townsite down the road. There is not really anything around us, the closest is about a 10 minute walk but in the rain it would not be pleasant . Pooley Bridge was busy. We walked into 3 places before finding a table in the back corner of a very crowded room of the Crown Inn pub. Most of our fellow diners were cyclists and quite noisy. But there was a friendly, vibrant feel to the place. Ken had chile con carne and I had a mushroom pie, which was just ok,
Back home to the warmth and the end of the soccer (Wales won tonight). Tomorrow we walk.
