Oven Rock / Little Farmer's Cay

Little Farmers Cay, Black Point, Bahamas
After leaving Black Point we spent one night at Oven Rock and explored a freshwater cave the next morning with Rita and Dave before moving a mile south to the Farmer's Cay Yacht Club.

Little Farmer's Cay has 53 residents . It is a friendly community that the locals have turned into a destination for cruisers. They receive weekly shipments from the "mail boat" and their main source of income is from fishing. I wish I had my camera when they brought in a "double load" the other day! They are currently fished to their max. All freezers are full and they need to start to sell it to all the other islands before they can start fishing again! They also conch and spear lobster (but not right now - over mating season there's a fishing ban on lobster).

We are waiting out some weather. There's a front that's been stalled over us. (Similar to when we were at Lyford Cay.) The winds are, at times, up to 30 knots and I am happy to be on a mooring ball!! :)

It has rained (off and on) for the past few days. It was still warm enough to be outside during the downpours, so we enjoyed rain showers and collected another bunch of fresh water. The cockpit has been scrubbed too! In between showers we've dinghied into town for quick visits and a few pictures .

We are getting some odd jobs done on the boat while we wait...like defrosting the freezer and emptying certain storage spaces, wiping out, and reorganizing. In such a small living space it is important to have a place for everything and keep everything in it's place!!!

My newest finding is that when the dinghy fills with rainwater, it makes for the ideal place to wash the throw rugs!! We've had so much rain that I've even done a bit of laundry in a bucket. Thank goodness for the wind and (now) sunshine to dry everything! With so much fresh water the boat has been cleaned inside and out!! Ah....nice.

We spent yesterday afternoon ashore at the Farmer's Cay Yacht Club. I uploaded these pictures, while Tony offered the use of our dinghy, and then helped the guys repair the docks.

This front seems to be moving on now as the sun is finally back out, but the winds are still up .

Hopefully we'll be able to continue moving south soon.

Love and kisses!

May 20th, 2014 – Oven's Rock / Little Farmer’s Cay

Hello all,

We are at Little Farmer's Cay waiting out weather. I've written a blurb on the newest entry on the photo blog about the last few days. (If you haven't sorted the entries yet, I suggest sorting so that "newest" is at the top.)

Also, please note that while we had such good interent in Black Point, I uploaded TONS of pictures going all the way back to March. So all the entries from March 'til now are new. I think there are now over 1000 pictures on the blog!!!

I also should have mentioned in the last blast what a wonderful job Tony did installing the new water pump! It's working well with no leaks and I am very proud of him!

Thanks for the notes from home! We really enjoy hearing back from everyone! Keep 'em coming!!

Hope you are enjoing all the photos and the updates.

Love and Kisses...xoxo...
