Petropolis, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Today I am ready for some history.

Yesterday evening, a young lady joined me in "my" room, she is an archivist, and she gave me lots of good advice to have visits in Rio, and clearly, if there was only one thing I would visit, that should be the Museu Imperial, the former summer residence of the emperors .

So, after a delicious breakfast, sitting outside, fruits and good bread and coffee, I went to walk to the museum. In front of it, a large park full of tropical trees and plants, palm trees of course, and more important, shade! The sun here is strong, and the sky is clear blue. I have an old hat I bought in Cambodia and it is very useful here!

The museum is nice to visit. I saw a completely restored carriage, beautifully decorated rooms, and I loved Pedro II his study, with a telescope to observe the stars. To protect the wooded floor we had to put some felt slippers on top of our shoes, funny how we all walked. No bags allowed, so I gave it all and got a key, and only later on realised I had left my camera in the bag. So I will just put some little internet pictures. Sorry!!

After the museum, I found a "restaurante a quilo", you choose from a buffet and pay according to the weight of your plate . I love it, because one can have a lot of vegetables!

This done, I resumed my walk and visited the Palácio do Cristal, a nice looking greenhouse, looks modern but is about 150 years old! Here the emperors used to have exotic flowers and birds, now it is an exposition area.

Back at the hostel, I am sitting on the terrace enjoyins, and suddenly, there I see the "Bem-te-vi", the bird I heard in Rio and here all the time! His song just sounds like "bem-te-viiiii", which means "good to see you!" so nice.. Quick, a picture! Of course it flew away... so, from the internet!

In the evening, back to the hostel, talks with Renan and Tiago, the staff, me trying to speak a little Portuguese, they reply in good English. Fun!

Pictures: too bad. When back in Rio, I wanted, finally, to transfer them from my camera... and it seems they all dissappeared! So I can only add internet pictures, as for now. They are similar to those I took. BUT, the 18th I go back there with Lisza, and then I will shoot shoot shoot... with my camera I mean ;-)
