One week of Spanish course!

Cusco, Peru
This was a decision taken suddenly... In Brazil my Portuguese improved a little bit, and hearing here talking Spanish made me realise I did understand more than I expected, words were quite the same, like também-tambien, muito-mucho, comer-comer, … but then others were completely different.
At the Mercado San Pedro, while eating a Chaufa, kind of a fried rice, I talked to this American lady and she told me she followed a language course at the Amigos school . Nothing but good impressions. So I went for it, registered one week and also a home stay in a family, in my case Claudia and her daughter Lupita.
So why not try to bridge the gap for a little week?

It was wonderful!

Our teacher Carla was full of nice ideas to make us practice. We were five students, of course I was far the grandma ;-) François from France who is doing an amazing world tour, Laetitia and Taissa from Rio De Janeiro for holidays, and Tania from Oslo who joined us for her third week of lessons.

We received a list of the most used regular and irregular verbs, of course. Bah. But then, had nice subjects to discuss, listened to Many Chao’s “me gustas tu” and while listening had to order little cards, each containing one sentence. Fun! I have received this CD from my brother Yves long time ago, and see, now finally I am understanding what is said ;-) I also learned that “me gusta Colombiana” here doesn’t mean “I like women from Colombia”, this sentence following “me gusta Marihuana” ;-)
I learned a lot. Discovered all the “v" letters here are said “b”, all of them! Quite puzzling. But then, we all know the “vamos a la playa” song where the actually say “bamos”…

Claudia, my host, is a lovely woman, offering a different breakfast every morning! Eggs, or avocados, or flakes with yoghurt. Of course, coca leaves tea ;-) or coffee. After school, back here, a delicious lunch, and nice talks.

I was not the only guest. Kate and Robby from Sydney, Australia were Claudia’s guests too. This week passed so fast!
Tomorrow I am going to take the bus to the Ollantaytambo ruins, and sunday evening, night bus to Puno, my next stay!
Only picture here, Claudia's kitchen and dining room. So nicely warm when the sun was shining!
