Nice long bus drive to a lovely colonial city!

Trujillo, Peru
I booked an expensive bus, according to Peruvian standards. The company "Cruz del Sur" costs at least double of a normal bus ticket, but you have food on board, extra space to almost lay down, and a personal television screen! I was to have a 21 hours trip to Lima and from there a 10 hours trip to Trujillo. That was worth a little extra cost!

We left Cusco around 3 pm, and for a last time I could admire the lovely mountains . I had booked in advance so had a "panoramic seat", on the second floor, in front, sitting just above the drivers, and with a large window in front of me. There was nice relaxing music available (I remember Ennio Morricone) while the landscapes passed by. At night, we got a hot dinner served, I watched a little movie and went to sleep. I woke up seeing the sunrise over kind of sandy mountains, so beautiful! Like a moon landscape, yellow and ocre coloured, no trees. We passed Ica.

Suddenly, there it was, the Pacific Ocean! I was at sea level again ;-) We drove along the coast, on my right these sand dunes and mountains, on my left the blue ocean, sometimes an oasis, little green dot in the the middle of the desert, What a nice drive!

Around noon we reached Lima, I had to wait two hours, and then bus to Trujillo. A nice drive along the coast, and around midnight, we arrived. My taxi driver tried to get me to "his' hotel, saying:"Munay Wasi Hostel? they do not open the door after midnight!" I said, we'll try . Of course they opened ;-)

The next day, I visited Trujillo. The Plaza de Armas is lovely, surrounded by old colonial houses, two stories, little balconies, painted in lovely colours. A cathedral, palters, and this lovely weather!

The toy museum had this adorable little coffee shop, very French like, with little wooden tables with iron feet, on the wall old displays of "Maurice Béjart" and "Le fauvisme". There were many other old building, transformed in museums, restaurants or coffee shops. Such a difference with, say, Puno!

The next day... I stayed in bed. 5 days sick, running nose, coughing, sleeping all the time. I suppose the coca tea was stronger than I thought and that I now felt how exhausted I was? My roommate said, "this looks like cocaine withdrawal symptoms!" what? well, whatever it was, I slept for 5 days, feeling happy I did not have to go to work!
