Here also ruins, buried in the sand!

Trujillo, Peru
After my 5 days of being so sick, I finally could go discover the old ruins in the neighbourhood.

I first visited the Huaca de la Luna y del Sol, two official buildings of the Moche civilisation, years 100-800 . Only to be visited, the Huaca de la Luna, a temple dedicated to the moon. It had been discovered buried in the sand, which maybe explains why some wall paintings were so well preserved! Really amazing and so beautiful!

Around the ticketing building I also saw for the first time these Peruvian hairless dogs, the Viringo. The hair disappeared naturally because it was so hot there, their skin is very thick like leather. I think they are quite ugly but well, they were very gentle ;-)

In the hostel I had met Céline, a French young researcher making a PhD thesis on the Iconography of the Chimu dynasty, which built Chan Chan, so I had the perfect guide!

We took a local bus, which is always something I like so much, it hobbles and moves and makes all kind of strange noises, people sit or stand how they can, but at the end you always are where you wanted to be . The bus drove away, and we were in silence.

From the road one has to walk about 20 min to reach the ruins. It is all desert, silence, sandy hills. Kind of a moon landscape in the burning sun. I came home with a sunburn on my shoulders ;-)

The ruins are from a large city built in sun dried bricks. How on earth did these not "melt" with rains? well part of it did, but since the ruins were mostly under the sand, it quite protected them.

The Chimu worshipped the moon, and many of their symbolic goes with sea animals and things. Fish, sea birds, fishing nets. It is so special to walk among these walls, imaging how the city should be when crowded in these years, 800 until 1450 something when the Inca "took over". Céline told me about the how and the why, so interesting!

for the rest I did not do lots of things, although I was much better, I still felt quite tired, so slept long nights and enjoyed just walking around in Trujillo. A holiday in my holidays!
