Our son Michael, possible Land Baron in Peschici!

Peschici, Puglia, Italy
After a delicious breakfast,we relaxed by the pool and got a late start. Just to tell you little bit about this beautiful place. La Chiusa Delle More means an enclosure of blackberries. MIxed in with the ancient olive trees there are huge BlackBerry bushes we can easily pluck a handful of them as we exit out each day. Francesco ,the owner, is wonderful, friendly and funny. His wife ANTONELLA is the cook, every day she goes to the market and cooks the most unbelievable meals, tonight is fish night, by special request they will prepare for me something other than the mussels and clams which I don't eat but Charles loves, loves. More info on dinner later......

Francesco 's family has owned this property for many generations, seems that in the 16 century his great, great etc . Grandfather was the tax collector and managed to accumulate a vast portion of land, Francesco 's brothers own olive groves also. Over the years they have extended and enlarged the place which has 10 rooms, it closes next week, reopening late April. He then goes to Foggia, where he has a huge farm inherited from his maternal side, and there grows products to sell to local restaurants and stores. This land baron of sorts has two daughters, so we are seriously considering an arranged marriage with our youngest.....supposed to meet prospective brides tomorrow.

We then jumped into our Fiat 500 and headed to Vico do Gargano a small medieval village. It is now amusing to listen to the GPS rattle off street names with a minimum of five words in each name as we go. Vico di Gargano, extremely small(population 400) the streets are very narrow and are in a maze of sorts. We walked around, seeing only locals who were definitely wondering who we were. We did find the vico dei Baci ,a stolen kiss there brings you luck so of course we followed tradition .

We then drove to Rodi di Gargano ,now the tiny roadways are crammed with large Rv' s heading home. This is a huge camping area, these camps are like mini Club Meds with all sorts of facilities . PERHAPS we will alter our life plan and spend summers here by the beach. Rodi has a definite Greek influence and by the long shoreline there are lots of restaurants. It started to rain but still there were still people swimming in the Adriatic which is calm and blue.....

At night we once again dined here at La Chiusa, fish night but seeing as I don't eat clams, mussels etc I opted for alternate dishes. CHARLES however, dined in seafood heaven.....first, antipasto of pupa. (Octopus), fried calamari ,stuffed mussels, and a small portion of local fish. ALL consumed slowly with DELICIOUS local bread and white wine. I had tomatoes with burrata(a creamy type of mozzarella),stuffed eggplant, mushrooms and peppers, pasta C had vongole,a least 30 -40 little clams with linguine in a wine sauce(another plate cleaned), M had a thick spaghetti with small tomatoes, C then had a portion of branzino with veggies,M had pork medallion with peppers, then some fresh perfectly ripe cantalope, followed by the most unbelievably delicious dessert, homemade straciatelli ice cream between two soft cookies covered with cream and chocolate sauce, we can't believe that we ate the whole thing...........Omg, unforgettable
We then met a couple who arrived after many delays from Holland, they definitely needed a drink after such an ordeal. We stayed talking with them and another couple who I will describe in my next blog until past midnight. Another wonderful day passes.
