Peschici, Puglia, Italy
The europeans asked about today's anniversary, where we were on that fateful day. We had a leisurely breakfast .....then relaxed by the pool. Warm and sunny-beautiful. Blue skies. We then headed to the beach, found a little gem of a restaurant that I had read about on trip advisor. Charles had tuna carpaccio which was extraordinary and I had prosciutto with caciocavallo(their local cheese),so delicious. But I am so missing my wine which I love, love to indulge in when I am here. Anyway, we spent the entire afternoon at this little restaurant by the port ,talking to the owner Rocco, somehow we managed to talk about everything- Syria,Berlusconi, Obama, Italian govt, WW2,his family, and of course,a medical discussion as my large bandaged thumb is quite a conversation starter.
All this while watching the comings and goings of boats and people in this sleepy fishing village . The rocky pier is splattered with artists, covered for sun protection, painting on their easels the interesting Cliffside of the town. How I wish I had that talent, they seem so happy ......With words-the Cliffside is a maze of short buildings, all whitewashed but with little bolts of color provided by painted shutters. They stack up like a jenga game and it seems that if you pulled one out all would tumble down. Green color is provided by the small trees and plants that have managed to find some dirt to root in. The blue sea continues to hit against the soft rock at the base of the cliff, creating more openings which will change the Cliffside again many, many years from now. It is not as colorful as Positano' s. village view but still beautiful in that it reflects the simple lifestyle and the wonderful humanity of the people who live here. They are all so warm and welcoming.

We went and had a gelato while waiting for the pharmacy to open-more pills, at the end of this I will have an internal body system which can defeat any bacteria which comes near me ....I also think they are putting up a photo of me in the local drug store as the tourist who purchased the largest quantity of medications in one week span. A POTENTIAL problem is , that the farmacia is located right next door to the carbinieri, so that same photo could possibly go up as poster for a drug smuggler......

At night we returned to the ambulance station to once again see the lovely, lovely doctor Patrizia Gariguilo. Her young and adorable assistant, Guiseppe gave us some info, she is 38,single,from Tremiti,(of course now my mind is thinking, let's make Stephen.10 years older, and another match can be made.) Giuseppe reminds me so much of my Michael.
But the team is called off for an emergency and we decide to go eat ,a quick dinner, pasta and mussels for Charles. We return to the ambulance center and spend the next two hours with all the medical personnel, we have invited all of them to America and if we can stagger their stays , we can create our own "Obamacare package" and practice Italian too. We take photos, hug, kiss, exchange emails, facebook, and promise to return one last time....tomorrow at midnight for a last check up. Last stop in town, the bakery, another just baked sfogliatella, the perfect finale to a day in Italy.,

We return to la Chiusa and share a nightcap with Anna and Gunther, laughing our way through the different stories of our day's activities in five languages, German, Italian, Polish, English and Spanish (which Charles and I mix up with Italian quite frequently-a result of hearing more Spanish on an everyday basis) Buona Notte
