Land of Myths and Legends, never let the truth get in the way of a good story
Sunny, warm 1st stop- Carrick-A-Rede, “rock in the road”.
Famous rope bridge here used to haul salmon from an enclosed fishing spot. Next- Giant Causeway- bay of cows, grazed on top ledge, Bay of Sands- across from Port Rush 1845, famine, “great hunger”propelled immigration. Boats called coffin ships as only 1 of 3 made it to their destination
Giant Bay- 2 theories
1. 66 million years ago 40,000columns were created by a plate shift/ lava flow, hexagon rocks covered in lichen which thrives in pure air
2. Giant Finn McKill decides to build a walkway to Scotland where another giant lives. When he gets there over the Irish Sea, he sneaks a look and that giant is twice his size. He scrambles back, his wife thinks quick and tells him to get in the baby’s bed the Scottish Giant was in pursuit and when he sees the “ baby” he decides
to retreat as the dad giant will be too big! Don’t believe it??? In Scotland there is a causeway that has the same rock formation!!
Geographic fact-We are at
the northwest tip of Northern Ireland but if we look west we see Southern Ireland
3rd stop- lunch in a little village, fish n chips
Told Ireland has 40 shades of green- price for that is the weather
Grazin sheep color marked- green Catholic, blue Protestant, red atheist. Lol
Last stop Carnlough seaport town game of thrones scene filmed here at dock
We drove thru city and driver told us about catholic/ Protestant struggles
We had back row seats but met a wonderful, interesting couple from Texas. She is a pilot, they have 3 sons, all pilots, all AFA graduates. He has a classic corvette too. Great conversations, made the day more enjoyable
