Milford Sound / Piopiotahi, Southland, New Zealand
Mountains frame our entryway. Their cliff faces are striped with white ribbons- waterfalls. Some permanent - others  have a short burst of life, never reaching bottom- drifting away in the wind.  Clouds are imprisoned in the crevices. Milford Sound- A breathtaking welcome to New Zealand. A narrow turn at its dead end with peaks Elephant’s Head and Lion on our exit.
Dolphins escort us to the widest. deepest, most popular - Doubtful Sound.  Two distinct layers of water that don’t mix creating a haven for deep sea species.  Three arms embrace us- First , Crooked and Hall Arm as we cruise through. 252 inches of rain yearly, one of the wettest places in the world!
Hours later the largest and most complex fiord appears. Dusky Sound. Several islands shelter in this location ( ironically one is named Long Island ). High precipitation creates hundred of cascading waterfalls.  Discovered in 1770, inhabited by the Māori people.
*Look for the two sleeping giant rock formations in last photo
Q Who discovered Dusky Sound?
A Myki- a pass to ride trams and buses

Majestic landscape captured in these pics...... bravo to the photographer! I think that I spotted the sleeping giants. Is one found in the clouds?

Breathtaking!! Your writing describes it perfectly:) I agree with Annie- I think one giant is the mountain and the other the cloud above it!

Looks incredible. If you find any magic rings keep them away from any hobbits.
