Double Header Culinary Delight

Kyoto, Kyoto, Japan
We begin the day with an incredible breakfast in the hotel garden cafe.  A vast array of Western/Eastern selections.  Tofu omelets with spinach, waffles with honey(no maple syrup here), asian fruits, sweet cakes and puddings.  One entire side is filled with fish and rice options. At night we continue this gastronomic experience with a 6 course dinner in a traditional restaurant, TEPPAN Tavern in Gion.  Owned by a chef couple, a gem hidden away in a tiny place, only 12 customers.  American jazz with Hideki and  Naomi wowing us with their creations.  He grinds raw wasabi on a shark skin tile.  The pictures will provide images but cannot relate the great taste encountered.  Sake-smooth and delicious in a ceramic cup we choose. A night that was Subarashii!!!!
Our escapade today was to Nara the ancient capital, its center is a green oasis where the deer roam freely.  Deer are believed to be messengers of God. Well they are given royal treatment as every tourist feeds them crackers that they seem to be addicted to…..Steps away is an enormous building that houses a 15 foot bronze Buddha.  At night in Gion we go to the Yasaka shrine, followed by a walking tour in the Geisha district.  We learn a great deal about their lifestyle, the area is filled with small wooden homes and restaurants. Charles knee is acting up, so we shorten the visit and head back.   While he rests his knee, I sneak off to the baths in the hotel.  The only westerner with a dozen Asian ladies- quite an experience!!!
A- Each goddess had 45 hands.
