Trek to city’s outskirts, to an interactive art display. Several huge rooms with engaging installations. Our first encounter is a waterfall staircase followed by a pillowed floor, 2-, we are then surrounded by crystal lighted beads streaming down from the ceiling on to a mirrored floor, 3- our feet are in changing water color designs , 4-room with screens of flowers rushing by, 5-enveloped by huge spheres lit differently every few seconds, 6-outside enveloped in glittering silver pods, finale- covered in cascades of living blooming orchids. A joyful and wonderful experience!
We meet up with our tour guide. She directs us to the local fish market. We have gone from visual to aroma- intensified by the narrow set of streets filled with vendors and a crazy assortment of unknown fish. Sushi, sashimi lunch-ocean fresh. A long subway ride takes us to the Sensoiji Temple. The street entrance is jammed with locals and tourists. Stores of all kinds. We direct incense towards us, bow, pray, clap twice. Setsoku, assures us it will bring only good fortune. She is a soft-spoken, reserved lady, we are written in her notebook as group #698.
Heading back we walk through the Ginza area, a replica of Fifth Avenue. At night we eat Chinese food , Japanese style. Our day ends with a toast, completion of the first leg of our tri-pod journey. Background is the lively, crowded roof top bar with an incredible nighttime view of the city. Jazz singer is belting out, What a Wonderful World. We so agree at this moment. Cheers. Kampai!
