Day begins with delicious breakfast Whirlwind tour’s inital stop, El Ateno, Grand Splendid- a theater transformed into a magnificent bookstore. Ceiling painting celebrates end of WWII. Perfect atmosphere to browse.. .. Heading to next site Evita’s profile on a building is shouting to the rich, on the flip side she is smiling at the poor. The people loved her. White myth: lower class considered her a saint. Black: she was with Peron only for power and $$$. He was a “Robin Hood” of sorts- taking from the rich to give to the poor.
Onto to Metropolitan Cathedral- magnificent place, Jose de San Martin burial plot.
La Boca- a colorful destination, original home to Italian immigrants. El Caminato was covered with leftover boat paint and inhabitants then crayoled their neighborhood with bright colors Result is a kaleidoscope of hues. We visit a tenement that housed 39 families with one kitchen and one bathroom (unimaginable) We stop at the oldest cafe, La Perla where a couple tangoes at its entry. We try dulce and churros.
. lunch = El Gran Paraiso, wonderful outdoor setting, grilled meats , delicious.
We pause at a massive Gomero tree- held up by a steel “Atlas” constructed of spare auto parts. Last stop( how appropriate) is La Recoleta Cemetery. Over 4,500 mausoleums with no restrictions on size, height or design. Each crypt goes 21 feet below to house “ additional occupants “. Evita is here. Her corpse was kidnapped and buried in Milan for 16 years until her family transported her back to their family burial site.
At night we venture downtown to see Tango. A show that portrays the dancer’s evolution originating in the bars and bordellos here. High kicks, rapid movements, precise steps , rhythmic energy, melancholic strains all combined with passion -What a dance!
A: Buenos Aires is home to more psychiatrists and psychoanalysts than any other city in the world

You look like you are having so much fun! Your photos prove that we can always rely on Charles to find the best restaurants. It is a family legend that part of my father's family emigrated from Calabria to Argentina and the rest came to America..... if you come in contact with any of the Montilli clan, send my regards!!
