We drive from Rome ,Taormina’s ascent is perilous-navigating narrow winding roads that spiral uphill. We become frustrated in this labyrinth trying to locate our hotel. We park in a random space, and there steps away is our hotel Svizzera. We explore, have some Arancini (rice balls) , rest and head out again.
Dinner at Rosmarino- Charles orders musculini, his plate arrives , he muses that these are the most unusual mussels- a sbaglio- He ordered sardines luckily they are delicious, lightly battered with a yogurt sauce. My order is pasta Norma, tubular shaped with eggplant and shredded ricotta ensalata- wonderful. He has gnocchi-tender, light puffs with buffalo mozzarella. Vino de casa- a great first meal.
Our second day begins with a plentiful breakfast assortment, lively conversation with a group from Brooklyn and a spectacular sea view background. A great way to begin the day. We take a walking tour, people watch and delight in the atmosphere which surrounds us, the melodic sound of Italian, the smell of lemons, the beautiful shops….
At night we dine at Nino’s- another spectacular meal complete with the local Nero wine- seafood salad, pasta and fresh sea bass. “Fare una Passagiata”. The Italian version of night time strolling and people watching. The piazza April 9 is populated with a variety of tourists and local families - many with a leashed pup enjoying the night too .

Una Buona Forchetta-translation a good fork = a good eater- that’s us as not a morsel was left on our dinner plates.
Fashion tip- still warm here, the Italian women are wearing long skirts , flowing with bright colors and patterns.
