Started the day with our cruise friends, they are Reta and Angus from Northwest Canada. He is a beekeeper, rents his bees out for pollination, she is a tech person. They were very interesting and regaled us with the story of losing their passports their first vacation day in Norway. It was ironic because when I gave their name to the front desk , the receptionist remarked "Oh I Know Them", I thought that was odd and now I know why- the hotel helped them get their passports back(at quite a hefty cost), the passport was in the lost and found railroad station in Norway.
We had breakfast with them and chatted quite a bit
. Breakfast was surprisingly good, great selection, good coffee- the Danes are BIG coffee drinkers but where are the danish pastries....not one to be found as yet.
We then headed off on our exploration, first a visit to Rosenborg Slot-the castle where the crown jewels are kept, in my next life I want to be Queen.. A stunning palace filled with the most incredible, huge tapestries,(how do they create such wonderful scenes on them) I can't even do needlepoint. Outside we met such an interesting couple from Texas, great travelers, they have been to every Presidential library in the US, I am now brainstorming on what will be our destination collection- any ideas? (FYI,if you comment on the blog, it gets published when I create it as a book,)
Charles has an oversized hot dog from one of their street vendors, it comes with bacon, onions, pickles, ketchup, mustard and mayo- delicious, he loved it. Not for me. price seven dollars......
We then went on a canal boat tour with very low bridges.....the commentary was in Italian,(ah a language I can understand and enjoy listening to) I can't even attempt to pronounce the Danish words, they don't sound the way they look, so I just point to the destination's words
. The people all speak English and are so very helpful. We saw The Little Mermaid and it is very little.
Next, we stopped at Bertlle's Salon- no not to get a haircut..but to have a slice of their famous cheesecake, it is a cafe, we chose Chocolate orange, each day they showcase 25 different varieties. So delicious, cost eleven dollars a slice. My cousin Cathy could come here a become a millionaire with her great cheesecakes.
We then went to Christianshavn,to see Our Savior's Church. It has a tower of 425 steps, the top of which is a spiral outside staircase . So what do you think?
a. Charles climbed to the top and took amazing photos of the view.
b. I struggled to the top, gasping for breath, just to prove I could do it
c. Furgetaboutit....we walked away and just took a photo of that spiral staircase.
Our last stop is Tivoli Gardens, the oldest amusement park in the world.(1843) Lovely with beautiful gardens and when it gets dark at 9, the lights go on, 110,00 lanterns(we didn't count them) and it is magical. Supposedly Walt Disney came here and that led to Disneyland. We ended our night here at the Peacock Theater, where the ballet was performed. A great finale to a very special day. Hence, we went from a beekeeper to a ballerina in one long day.
FYI, Weather sunny and 80 degrees
Dinner, tasty hamburgers and coca cola(glass bottle) 48 dollars.
Multiple choice answer c, did you forget we are elderly!!!.
Typing this tonight in a high tech computer hub in the hotel and not on my kindle. Unsure if the blog will continue as we will be on the ship tomorrow.
