WHITE CITY OF THE NORTH

Helsinki, Southern Finland, Finland
Name attributed to pale granite used for most buildings. Walking into town, young couple from Philly adopts us as tour mates for a day of exploration. Ride tram to Rock Church, structure built into bedrock, copper ceiling, very serene, silent vibe.
Passed Olympic Stadium ,1952 games . Found Sibelius, a famous Finnish composer's monument, composed of 527 steel pipes. Our high tech partner, manages to play the music of the composer while we are there, to set the mood.
We stop at Market square, taking silly photos of this enormous, enormous pink statue of a man urinating into the sea.......oh well, guess that is Finnish humor. We make it back close to boarding and ironically meet the infamous couple who almost missed the ship in Germany. Their escapade is similar to the Amazing Race, consisted of boarding a wrong express train to Hamburg, running to catch another train back, taking a taxi from the last stop and then sprinting to the boarding ramp that was just about to be raised!
At night we have dinner with the beekeeper and his wife, learning more information now about winter and the bees!!fascinating. Will love to share when I return.
Great shows end the night, Broadway tunes, followed by a couples acrobats- amazing and then ending with laughter at their version of Dancing with the Stars.
Have put deposit on a future cruise to be determined........
