Beautiful, sunny day. The youngsters set out on their own adventure(still trying to get to the Blue Grotto). We head to Amalfi. The bus ride is a collection of so many interesting people, a man who tells us of his brother's pilgrimage walk across Italy, a couple who chats with us about their years spent in China, a rowdy group from Lousiana who share their latest expedition. We walk the town, stop at a "deli" for a delicious sandwich and laugh as we see Dawn's brother John and Zena walking by. You have to understand , there are thousands of tourists on the streets here, we are off the beaten path and yet our paths cross. We chat a bit and make plans to meet them in Ravello tomorrow.
We head to the Museo Della Carta, where we are taken on a interesting tour of the waterwheel factory that made paper in the 17 century and operated until the 20th century
. We are shown all types of machinery which are demonstrated. On the way out she makes us laugh,as she points out the oldest machine in the mill, the espresso.
We walk down to the port and take the bus back. This time we are entertained by an Italian man, he counts the people on line twice to let his wife know if she will get a seat. He asks us to sing NY< NY and makes jokes all the ride home.
We go out for dinner alone, to Il Leone Russo and the meal is terrific.I have a local pasta with zucchini that is frosted with their local cheese. Charles has the tourist menu, delicious homemade pasta with tomato sauce, then a seafood salad of calamari and pupa with a side salad. All with wine and delicious cheesecake. Our waistlines are expanding and the dreaded four letter work (diet) is in our future. A walk after dinner is a necessity and we tumble into bed with aching feet.
Michael and Michelle have had an extraordinary day, they rented a boat and went to Capri. In retrospect we should have joined them, a missed opportunity.
